BluEnergies Ltd. and TotalEnergies are advancing an exploration work program in the Harper basin offshore Liberia, with seismic reprocessing and seabed surveys progressing on schedule as the companies work to mature drilling prospects across Blocks LB-26, LB-30 and LB-31.
The program includes reprocessing approximately 6,167 km² of 3D seismic data, which BluEnergies said is now more than 50% complete. The work, being carried out by TGS, is designed to enhance seismic imaging and improve identification of potential hydrocarbon-bearing targets.
In parallel, GeoPartners Ltd. is conducting a seabed survey program covering approximately 4,045 km² in water depths ranging from 500 m to 3,500 m. The survey is being performed aboard the R/V GYRE, owned and operated by TDI-Brooks, the Texas-based offshore survey company specializing in geotechnical, geochemical and marine science investigations.
The offshore campaign, which began June 19, includes multibeam echo sounder mapping, seabed geochemical sampling and heat flow measurements to support interpretation of basin-floor fan prospects and optimize future drilling locations. Data acquisition is expected to conclude during the third quarter of 2026, with integration into the updated 3D seismic interpretation planned for the fourth quarter.
“The West Africa Transform Margin, where the Harper basin is located, and its conjugate South American Margin are regions where basin floor fan plays are being actively and successfully explored, developed and produced,” said Sergio Laura, BluEnergies’ vice president of exploration.
Laura noted that recent licensing activity by major operators across the West African margin reinforces the basin’s prospectivity, citing developments including Ghana’s Jubilee field, Namibia’s Venus discovery and recent offshore discoveries in Côte d’Ivoire.
The companies said the exploration program is aimed at refining drillable prospects and supporting future well location selection across the offshore Liberian acreage.
